Markets are deeply ingrained in the Thai culture and not just a place for buying and selling goods, but also a place to socialize. We'll begin our day at the famous Mae Klong Train Market, established well-before the arrival of the train in Thailand. When the track was constructed in 1905, the market, instead of relocating, continued to operate on the lines just as it does to this day. What makes this market so special is that all the stalls occupy a very narrow stretch of train track. When the train passes, the sellers pick up their wares in a matter of seconds and patrons divide along each side to wave to the commuters. After the train has passed, everything is back in its place, and life resumes.
We will then pick up some lunch and local crafts at the Floating Markets. Bangkok’s floating markets are famous for their variety of products, sold on the long boats lining the tropical canals. Meander along the river at your own pace on a private long-tailed boat. Stop and grab a spring roll or mango sticky rice. Pick up a few local crafts. Enjoy a cold beer. It's all here on the water!
We are then on to the glittering Grand Palace complex, which has served as the seat of Thailand's revered Royal family for more than two centuries. You will be awed by the grandeur and majesty of the building and its throne halls, and of course, marvel at the mysterious Emerald Buddha, the most revered Buddha image in Thailand, resided in Wat Phra Kaew which adjoins the Grand Palace in a common compound.
The evening is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Years of French occupation and a lengthy war with the United States have marked Vietnam since the late 19th century. One of the most impressive feats of wartime engineering is the famed Cu Chi Tunnels. This monument will give us important insights into what the Vietnamese called "The American War", as we gain an appreciation for the resilience and spirit of the Vietnamese people during this horrific time. The residents of Cu Chi took the war underground into a highly developed network of tunnels, included meeting rooms, kitchens and triage areas. Imperceptible from the ground, opposing armies could roll their tanks over the bunkers without causing damage to the tunnels below. Living conditions were harsh – in addition to fighting the war, residents battled food and oxygen scarcity, venomous insects, and cramped living quarters.
We will drive back into the city and stop for an included lunch.
The history of Saigon has many layers, telling a tale of decades of external influence from the Chinese and the French. We will explore the Dong Khoi Area beginning with the Reunification Palace, also called Independence Palace, which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the fall of Saigon. It was here that the Vietnam War ended when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates and led to the formal reunification of the two sides. Then it's on to a visit to the Saigon Central Post Office, a stunning architectural marvel with rich Gothic, Renaissance, and French influences. We will then walk to the area around the Opera House, where we will hear stories of espionage and wartime reporting.
Evening Vespa street food tour
The darker the night gets, the more vivid Saigon becomes. Get ready for a wild ride, as we hop on Vespas again to discover busy Saigon after dark. We'll experience Southern Vietnam specialities in the most authentic local restaurants as we zig-zag through the hustle and bustle of the streets. Our evening will include live music at a cosy speakeasy bar to taste some signature cocktails and end at a lively jazz club to rock the night away.
